Dokkodo Sounds

Dokkodo Sounds is the moniker of producer and sound designer Thomas Trueman. The name derives from a book, The Dokkodo (The Way of Walking Alone), written by one of the greatest swordsman in 1645 Japan, Miyamoto Musashi. He wrote the book in preparation for his own death, and it contains 21 precepts on how best to live your life.

The project focuses on ambient soundscapes combined with hazy beats and nostalgic melodies. The influence of the book is reflected in Thomas’ desire to live his best life through music and art.

The music has achieved over 10 million streams and been featured on Apple Music and Spotify editorial playlists including Lo-Fi Beats, BEATstrumentals and Ambient Sleep as well as support from BBC Radio One. Thomas’ music has also been released to vinyl and cassette thanks to his good friends Inner Ocean Records. With the Dokkodo Sounds project, Thomas has played live shows supporting some of his musical heroes such as Gold Panda and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, as well as performing at Sound Baths with Emerald and Tiger in London.
